In the barn, everything made sense while you were putting your share into your bags to bring home. At home, it suddenly became very overwhelming once you began unpacking! We have all been there; it is part of the CSA learning curve.Let us help you make the most of your farm share!Being a member of a CSA opens the door to so many topics! At this workshop we will talk about:
- Resources: books, websites, Anchor Run CSA website (Recipes and Veggies 202 – it has pictures)
- How to keep your veggies as fresh as possible once they are in your refrigerator.
- The pros and cons of different preservation techniques (freezing, fermenting, canning, dehydrating).
- “Tools of the trade”, which I find invaluable.
- Before you compost: radish greens are edible!
- Composting, composting at the farm; what and what not to include in a compost pile, vermicomposting.
- Solar Cooking
- How to keep your veggies as fresh as possible once they are in your refrigerator.
- The pros and cons of different preservation techniques (freezing, fermenting, canning, dehydrating).

We will share recipes based on farm produce that our families love. And by share – I mean taste and provide copies of the recipes. Pestos - don’t limit yourself to Basil. BCFA Potluck and Farm Tour
Potluck begins at 6:00pm and farm tour begins at 7:00pm.
Bucks County Foodshed Alliance and Buy Fresh Buy Local® Bucks County announce the 2019 series of popular farm evenings that introduce consumers to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto our tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers markets, farm stands, and other venues. The farm evenings include a potluck dinner and a tour of the farm.

Harvest Carrots

Harvest Garlic Scapes
Help us pull out the edible flower stalk from garlic plants. More of the plants energy can then go to bulb development. The scapes will be given out in CSA shares. This work is mostly done from a standing position.

Harvest Potatoes
Our potato digger will sift through the soil and deposit most of the spuds on top of the soil behind it as it makes its way down the bed. Potatoes will be picked up and placed in bins to truck to the barn. Some soil sleuthing for missed spuds is necessary. (These are kid friendly shifts, but please do not sign them up on the website. They can receive credit if they work. We need to make sure we have room for enough adults to sign up).

Harvest Sweet Potatoes
Your farmers will loosen the soil with a tractor mounted undercutter bar. Workshift attendees will follow behind and pull the tubers up by their vines, pull them off the vine, place them in bins, and do some quick light soil sifting.

Kiddo Brown Bag Lunch
Greetings Farm Families!
Once again we're having a Kiddo Day Brown Bag Lunch at Anchor Run Farm!
Bring a brown bag lunch to our Kiddo Day at the Farm. There is plentiful picnic table seating under the pavilion, but feel free to bring a blanket or chairs if you want to spread out around the lawn.
We will provide a kid friendly activity while we all get to socialize and watch our kiddos get covered in dirt. Don't forget to bring your own drinks, sunscreen, and non-toxic bug spray.

Maple Syrup and Honey For Sale!
Susan and Todd Klikus of Augusta Acres Farm will be at Anchor Run CSA on Thursday, July 11th, 1:00-6:30pm to share and sell their maple syrup and honey!
- Augusta Acres is located in Beach Lake, PA and is a family-run operation.
- They farm using only organic methods and are members of Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Maple Producers Association.
- Sap from trees located strictly on the farm is boiled down in small batches on their wood fired arch to produce a maple syrup that is dark and robust.
- Their honey is extracted from on-farm apiaries and is an "all season", raw honey which is dark and very sweet.
- Pints are $15; Quarts are $24.
- Cash, checks, and credit cards are acceptable methods of payment.

New Member Orientation and Open House
When -- Sunday May 5th 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Where -- Anchor Run Farm 2578 2nd Street Pike, Wrightstown, PA 18940. Parking is available on site in a large stone lot at the end of the driveway. Importantly, please drive slowly in and out of the farm, there will be plenty of kids, adults, cats, and maybe a dog or two (on a leash) wandering around.
Who Should Attend -- New members who would like to check out the farm and learn more about how our CSA works before the harvest season starts. Returning members who want to spend time with their food community.
Why -- We'll be hosting field tours and pick-up room tours complete with ample time for Q&A sessions with the farmers and the core group members. See what your food looks like before it reaches your kitchen, where your 'u-pick' crops will be this year as well as how the pick-up room and workshifts function. There will be some snacks and light refreshments under the pavilion. So come on out and meet your farmers, mingle with the farm community, and enjoy some long awaited spring excitement!

Share Pick Up Time Slot Sign Up
Sign up for the time slot during which you would like to pick up your CSA share. Please only sign up the primary name on your account (we don't need to know how many folks from your share will be with you).
If you're going to be temporarily switching from your assigned pick up day please also send us an e-mail (anchorruncsa@gmail.com) so we can account for you in our harvest numbers.
Bring your own containers (baskets, boxes, laundry basket, bags - whatever works best) to collect your produce.
There will be a 30-member per hour limit. If necessary, please form a line extending from the pick up room through the grassed walkway between the herb garden and small collection of fruit trees.
You need to be logged in to sign up (log in here). Navigate to the calendar. Click on the person/plus symbol next to the time slot hour you wish to sign up for. The page will refresh. A plus button will then be next to your name. Click it once. Page refreshes. The Great Garlic Harvest!
This is a wonderful, team-oriented shift and you'll leave smelling great! The garlic will be harvested with the help of multiple workshifts. First, after the soil has been lifted and loosened with a tractor tool, we'll pull the garlic from the ground and place it in piles. Then, we'll retrieve those piles using bins and the farm truck and take the garlic to the barn area. At the barn folks will secure string around bundles of garlic so it can hang from the rafters to cure. Lastly, a few folks on ladders will hang the garlic from rafters and wires in the barn. Many of these tasks will overlap and be done simultaneously. It all goes very smoothly, we promise!

Thinning Carrots, Yummy
Carrots are seeded directly into the soil. Because of their slow and erratic germination they're seeded more densely than their ideal space requirements. During this shift we'll pull out undeveloped carrots to try to achieve their ideal space requirements, which is basically a two-finger width between plants.

Wild Edible Foraging - Tasting and Tea

Organic, non-genetically mutated, rich in vitamins and minerals. Barb will open the door for you to a whole new world. Growing right in your back yard are ingredients for salad, stir fries, teas and other dishes.
At this event farm member and long time forager Barb Weikamp will take you on a walk around the farm to identify and pick plants for a salad and a stir fry. Make sure to bring your own scissors, a basket or bag, bowls for washing greens, as well as a plate, cup or mug, fork and a towel. Meet at the picnic tables under the pavilion.
